Voice Audition Requirements

All prospective students must apply for admission, both to the Department of Art, Music and Theatre and Armstrong Atlantic State University.

Students wishing to be admitted as a music major with voice as their primary instrument are required to audition for the voice faculty. Contact one of the voice faculty listed below to schedule an audition.

Applicants should prepare two songs in contrasting styles which display their musical and technical abilities; both selections may be in English. All vocal auditions are to be performed from memory and accompanied by a pianist; an accompanist is available upon request. The use of pre-recorded accompaniment tapes is disallowed.

Audition pieces should be selected from the standard classical vocal repertoire and pre-1974 Broadway musicals. Applicants are asked to avoid pop, gospel, contemporary Christian or country songs when selecting audition repertoire.

A brief sight singing test will follow the audition. Additionally, applicants are required to take a theory diagnostic assessment to determine basic music reading skills.
