SMF's George Shirley To Work With Young Singers

LEGENDARY VOCAL MASTER IMPARTS KNOWLEDGE AND INSIGHT AT AASU

The Armstrong Atlantic State University Department of Art, Music & Theatre (AASU AMT) announces that legendary tenor, George Shirley, will share musical insight and vocal training tips with four young singers in a public master class presentation at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31st in the AASU Fine Arts Auditorium.

Shirley, one of the judges for Savannah Music Festival's 2009 American Traditions Competition and who was the first African American tenor to be engaged by New Yorks Metropolitan Opera, will conduct a vocal master class for select local young singers, three of whom graduated from Savannah academic music programs. Audience members may even be able to glean some insight as to musical values and criteria that this "Traditions" judge considers at the competition.

SINGERS:
  • Lyric soprano Ashley Adams, former Savannah Country Day student and current AASU sophomore vocal music performance major
  • Lyric soprano Brittny Hargrove, Savannah Arts Academy alumna and junior AASU music education major
  • Lyric soprano Hui Gibbs, senior AASU vocal performance major and graduate of SeoMun Girls High School, Seoul, Korea
  • Lyric tenor Matthew Jones, Savannah Arts Academy alumnus and senior AASU vocal performance major
The George Shirley Vocal Master Class is free and open to the public.
